Jessica Spector, PhD

Yale College, Residential Seminar Lecturer

Jessica Spector is an academic philosopher and cultural historian. She works on ethics and intellectual and cultural history, with particular focus on how stories shape identity, our sense of place, and on norms and taboos surrounding alcohol and sex. She holds a PhD and an MA from The University of Chicago, along with certifications and diplomas from several Scottish Whisky Academies, the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, and the School of Graduate and Professional Writing at The University of Chicago, where she also served on the faculty. She has served on hospital ethics committees, journal review panels, and conference boards. She has published and spoken widely on history, ethics, the sex industry, and food and drink culture.
